Level Up Your Walking This May!

Level Up Your Walking This May
This month is national walking month. So it’s the perfect opportunity to commit to getting more steps in all whilst improving your health and fitness. We all know walking is good for us, but did you know it’s a superstar for both your body and mind? We’re all about helping you to stay healthy, so we’ve put together 10 reasons why you should level up your walking this May.

Physical Perks:
  • Burn Calories: Walking is an easy and enjoyable way to lose weight – even incorporating a few regular walks into your routine can make a big difference.
  • Strong Heart, Happy Heart: Walking strengthens your heart and improves circulation, keeping you feeling tip-top.
  • Goodbye Sugar Spikes: Regular walks help regulate your blood sugar, keeping you energised.
  • Say No to Stiffness: Keep your joints lubricated and your body moving freely with daily walks.
  • Boost Your Immunity: Regular walks might help keep those pesky coughs and colds at bay!

Brain Benefits:
  • De-Stress: Feeling overwhelmed or procrastinating? A walk can work wonders for reducing stress and anxiety.
  • Mood Booster: Walking releases endorphins, your body’s natural feel-good chemicals!
  • Sharper Mind: Regular walks can improve memory, focus, and creativity – who knew?
  • Better Sleep: A brisk walk can tire you out in a good way, leading to a deeper, more restful sleep.
  • Sunshine Power: Walk outdoors and soak up some Vitamin D for a natural mood boost!

So now you know the benefits how can you level up your walking this May?
  • Start Simple: Even just committing to taking the stairs. or leaving the car behind for a small journey is a great place to start.
  • Start Small: We all know when we go too big with a goal it rarely brings a long-term habit change. Don’t overwhelm yourself – begin with 10-minute walks and gradually build up.
  • Walk the Talk: Catch up with friends or family on a phone walk – exercise and socialising combined! Have a regular weekly team meeting?  Why not go for a walk rather than sitting at your desk.
  • Step Up Your Commute: If possible, walk or cycle part of the way to work – it’s good for you and the planet!
  • The Park Life: Take your lunch break to a park for a refreshing walk and some nature therapy.
  • Give Back: There are many charity walking challenges that you can do in May. Knowing you are raising money for a good cause and joining a worthwhile community is a great motivator.
  • Make it Fun: Explore new neighbourhoods, listen to your favourite tunes, or walk your dog – find what keeps you motivated!

So, what are you waiting for? Get those trainers on and start walking your way to a healthier, happier you!

Remember: Always check with your doctor before starting any new exercise routine, especially if you have any existing health concerns
